Research progress on nanoparticles applied in redox flow batteries

Abstract In recent years, the focus on utilization of renewable energy has continued to heat up. However, drawbacks intermittency and mismatch between power generation electricity consumption in time space, thus storage system is indispensable. Redox flow batteries (RFBs), as an electrochemical system, have attracted widespread attention with nature flexible design long service life. The components RFB efficient combination play a key role battery performance. Due size effect physicochemical properties nanoparticles, ionic conductivity, thermal mechanical effects are improved RFBs addition improving performance charge–discharge cycle life battery. this review paper, we mainly report application research progress nanoparticles applied RFBs. applications electrode, electrolyte, proton (ion) exchange membranes aqueous nonaqueous briefly introduced, emphasis adjusting type, size, surface treatment, loading method, quality nanoparticles. transport property reaction rate active species charges can be after inclusion leading improvement density, efficiency, stability systematically comprehensively understood via analyses discussions review. It also provides new technical idea promote commercial development deployment high‐performance RFB.
